GULLIVER'S TRAVELS

Cast: Jack Black, Jason Segel, Emily Blunt, Amanda Peet
Directed by: Rob Letterman
Distributor: 20th Century Fox
Running time: 1 hr 25 min

THE STORYLINE:
In this remake of Jonathan Swift's classic novel, has Jack Black taking on the title role of Lemuel Gulliver, a mailroom clerk turned travel writer. He takes on a project in the Bermudas and suddenly find himself ends up in the hidden island of Liliput, home to a population of industrious yet tiny people, where he towers its tiny citizens as a big giant

BOX OFFICE FACTOR:
The team's ability to toy with the classic stroyline was taken to full advantage and delivered perfectly with fun visuals and amusing scriptwriting. Watch out for many pop culture references that are sure to produce laughs here and there

CUT! FACTOR:
We've seen enough of Jack's ass crack, big belly and air guitaring skills and we dont have to see more of this. It's numbing to watch the moderate imagination that comes with placing a big man among a shrunken society fade away in favor of gross out gags, pop culture references and a sing along finale more groan inducing the most

MY SAY:
There is nothing out of the ordinary about this movie but the vibrabt and colourful settings heartfelt story and youth friendly humour makes this film a fun family affair

TRON: LEGACY

Cast: Jeff Bridges, Garret Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, Bruce Boxleitner,
Beau Garret, Michael Sheen
Directed by: Joseph Kosinski
Distributor: Walt Disney Pictures
Running Time: 2 hr 5 min

THE STORYLINE:
A sequel to the 1982 classic, Tron: Legacy is a high tech adventure that revolves around Sam Flynn (Hedlund), the tech savvy 27 years old son of Kevin Flynn (Bridges), looks into his father's disappearance and find himself pulled into the uber-cool CGI world of Tron where his father has been trapped for 20 years. Together with Kevin's loyal fearless warrior Quorra (Wilde), father and son embark on a life and death journey of escape across a visually stunning cyber universe created by Kevin himself that has become far more advance and exceedingly dangerous with villains who will stop at nothing to stop them from escape

BOX OFFICE FACTOR:
Tron: Legacy is a pretty light movie. The special effects are above average and the stunt work and action sequences are some of the best of the year. Like the original movie, this movie was made to push the boundaries of technology in cinema and it succeeds

CUT! FACTOR:
The computer graphics is impeccable while the plot is a mess. Like the original, Tron : Legacy obsesses over technology and style but forget important details like plot and character. They don't even bother hiring an actual scriptwriter and makes the movie alarmingly uninteresting ride plus too many pointless scene make it even worse

MY SAY:
Visually eye catching, this movie would be good for sore eyes but it does very little to none for entertaining you. You will left with too many unanswered question, no impact storyline and under used characters, Tron: Legacy is all dazzling visuals and style, but hardly any meaning

In contrast to mind blewing setting of Venice, Frank pursues a promising romance but soon find himself the pursued as he and Elise unwittingly thrust into a deadly game of cat and mouse

BOX OFFICE FACTOR:
Well if you are a big fan of Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, this movie is a must for you. Both actors makes for some fine eye candy in the movie and has the charisma required down pat. Plus an exotic setting like Venice which give a breathtaking view throughout the movie and Angelina Jolie's impeccable wardrobe make this movie worth a watch

CUT! FACTOR:
It may be easy to lose concentration and interest due to alarmingly slow pace, but I think it's best you pay close attention and stick around for the ending

MY SAY:
Even though the pace is a bit slow, I still enjoy watching this movie. From credible and heartthrobs leads to beautiful scenery and wardrobes, I love almost everything about this movie. It is for me a romantic thriller on the lighter side, providing ample rewards for those willing to play along. Sure the plot is preposterous, the chemistry is not there but hey, with Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp and Venice what more could you want from a movie?

DUE DATE

Cast: Robert Downey Jr, Zach Galifianakis, Jamie Foxx
Directed by: Todd Phillips
Distributor: Warner Bros Pictures
Running time: 1 hr 40 min

THE STORYLINE:

High strung father to be Peter Highman (Downey Jr) is forced to hitch a ride with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay (Galifianakis) on a road trip when things go wrong on their flight from Atlanta to Los Angeles in order to make it to his child's birth on time

BOX OFFICE FACTOR:

There's not much to shout about as the entire movie focuses on just the two characters, Peter and Ethan, but they both give brilliant performances. Although in a disgusting way, some part are hilarious and if you feel like to kill Zach at the end of it, it just shows he's played his role impeccably

CUT! FACTOR:

Male humour can get tiresome after a while and you would most likely want to kill Zach halfway through the show. It gets better towards the end, but it's a bit of wait

MY SAY:

Sit through it if you're fan of Robert Downey Jr and if you can stand stupidity. It's movie about friends being there when you need them after all, so not all is lost. The boys would love this one but kids should stay away as it contains a lot of adult references

HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART 1

Cast: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter
Directed by: David Yates
Distributor: Warner Bros Pictures
Running Time: 2 hr 30 min

THE STORYLINE:
In the first of a two part finale, Lord Voldemort's (Fiennes) power grows stronger and he gains control over the Ministry of Magic and Hogwarts school. Harry (Radcliffe), Hermoine (Watson) and Ron (Grint) take it upon themselves to finish Dumbledore's work and find the rest of the Horcruxes and destroy them in order to defeat the Dark Lord

BOX OFFICE FACTOR:
With expected brilliant CGI creatures like goblins and elves looking just like how you'd imagine them if they were exist. The twists and turns at every corner making this movie an exciting ride and you won't want to miss the next installment!

CUT! FACTOR:
If you're not an avid follower of the film series or the book, you will find yourself lost as the movie switches from scene to scene rather rapidly. The gloomy setting of the film also will somewhat make you feel depressed

MY SAY:
Whiz yourself in this world full of magic and sorcery with a touch of close friendships included for good measure. It's worth it to watch through the scenes where nothing much happens, to know that the good bits are coming and if you're big fans of this film series you will find out that the trio has clearly advanced beyond the pure buddy stages of childhood. And for me the actors posses their best chemistry yet although this is maybe the scariest of all series, but I also personally think this is one of the strongest in the series. Get ready for a long eight month, Potterites!
